Yoga for Pregnancy

Lisa is qualified to Diploma level with Birthlight. She teaches yoga for pregnancy, and post-natal yoga. Yoga for pregnancy is open to all women from 14 weeks onwards. See Class Schedule for details.

Pregnancy is a time full of change. Yoga is a way of coping with those changes physically, mentally, and emotionally.

  • Practicing yoga promotes self-esteem, balance, and a sense of regaining control. It is a space to relax and take time out as well as grow.
  • Yoga helps with postural changes, promotes flexibility, strength and stamina. It eases back pain, neck and shoulder tension, opens the pelvis, and strengthens the pelvic floor.
  • Certain breathing techniques are used to ease stress and anxiety. Other techniques are taught for labour. Studies have shown that deep breathing reduces blood pressure, heart rate and muscle tension. Breathing also assists in natural pain relief.
  • The babies also benefit from the yoga. They receive an increased oxygen supply and increased endorphins. Gentle yoga movements massage the baby and create an inner remembrance of relaxation. The baby carries this with them all their lives.
    * Yoga helps makes the transition into motherhood easier, more relaxed and full of joy.
