Embodied Anatomy & Yoga

The study of anatomy from the inside out, grounded in your body and your experience.

What is Embodied Anatomy?

Your body is your home. It is made up of cells, tissues, organs and systems infused with life force energy and spirit. The work of experiential anatomy teaches us how to access and call on this deep body of wisdom.

Embodied anatomy is the study of anatomy from the inside out. It is grounded in your body and your experience. Understanding and embodying your anatomy creates intelligent asana, refined posture, strength, flexibility, co-ordination and balance. It generates a feeling of ease, pleasure and flow. This leads to impeccable alignment, deep self-care and personal agency.

What can Embodied Anatomy do for me?

Embodied Anatomy invites us to reconnect with the living architecture of our bodies — an intricate interplay of bones, fluids, organs, fascia, muscles, ligaments, voice, and nervous system. Through conscious movement and sensory awareness, we awaken the deep intelligence that resides within us: the grounding clarity of our bones, the dynamic flow of our fluids, the subtle language of our organs, and the expressive vitality of our muscles. We explore the fascia as a living web of communication, feel the spirallic support of our ligaments, and reclaim our voice as a powerful extension of our embodied truth.

This approach offers more than physical understanding — it is a gateway into sensing, expressing, and living with greater freedom, resilience, and authenticity. By attuning to the inner currents of movement and breath, and honoring the guiding role of the nervous system, we return to the body not as an object to be controlled, but as a wise, responsive ecosystem to be lived from within.

Why should i study Embodied Anaomy

Somatics offers a practical tool-kit for physical and emotional resilience, freedom in the breath and calm in the mind. On a physical level, it’s used to treat a range of conditions like lower back, neck, hip, jaw, pelvic and knee pain. It helps re-pattern hyper-kyphosis and scoliosis, and is used to heal sports injuries and postural problems. It also addresses sciatica, pelvic floor issues, repetitive strain and many more conditions.

Somatic exercises can be seamlessly incorporated into yoga, pilates, physio and physical therapy. They can transform dance, running, swimming and all sports. I have also taught GPs, psychotherapists, physical trainers, osteopaths, meditation teachers, massage therapists and movement professionals from all walks of life.

what people say

‘Lisa combines an inspiring curiosity about movement and learning with a natural ability to pass on the knowledge she has gained in her pursuit and to instill the same curiosity in her students. I came away from her lessons, both theoretical and practical, with a new understanding about how to move with ease and grace and to incorporate this into my yoga practice.’

Lea Maher, Yoga Teacher

Lisa is a rare teacher in these days of shrink- wrapped knowledge imparted in a one size fits all way. Her methods ensures each student experiences the learnings from the inside out, from a deeply felt sense as you know she teaches from that same place in herself.  You only have to watch her move to see that she has incorporated all her learnings into every breath and movement with effortless integrity. She is quite literally poetry in motion’.

Katrina Hilton, Yoga Teacher, Australia

‘Lisa has a way of not just teaching and sharing her knowledge, but totally embodying the principles she teaches. It is clear she has a deep intellectual understanding of what she is teaching, but the beauty is that she can share that knowledge in many different ways, making it accessible to everyone. When I watch her demonstrate, something is ignited deep within me and all the information aligns.’

Anna Jakes, Yoga Teacher, New Zealand
