This workshop explores how to release, strengthen and balance the muscles around the shoulder and how incorrect alignment can sabotage even the best Yoga poses. We will look specifically at weight bearing poses like Upward Dog, Downward Dog, arm balances, and Chatturanga and in non-weight bearing poses like Eagle Pose, Cow-Faced pose, and simple standing poses. New shoulders guaranteed !

‘What wires together, fires together’
It took 4 million years of evolution for man to learn to walk upright. So why do so many of us have problems in our feet, knees, hips, and lower backs ? To solve the puzzle, it helps to understand that we organize movement though a process called patterning.
Movement patterns integrate and co-ordinate neuromuscular action. As they become entrained in our nervous system, we develop movement habits, which like many other habits can be positive or negative. In Yogic philosophy we call unhealthy habits samskaras. In many cases, we have to unlearn inefficient patterns or ways of organizing ourselves so we can move about in the world with poise and ease.
This workshop will combine Yoga and Somatic Movement Education offering you cutting-edge science grounded in ancient wisdom. Discover how to translate your ‘Yoga body’ into your ‘everyday body’ and discover the ease, poise and lightness that comes from effortless movement.

This workshop will particularly benefit athletes especially runners as well as yoga students. It is suitable for all ages and movement levels. No previous experience is required.

Yoga is an art, a technology and a science. It holds the innate ability to heal. However, practiced incorrectly, yoga also has the ability to harm. This final module is open to students who have studied at least 3 earlier intensives. We will examine specific medical conditions including an indepth focus on back, foot, knee, pelvic, spine, shoulder and neck conditions and explore how to both troubleshoot and design therapeutic programmes. The previous 9 modules have individually offered solutions to many conditions that regularly show up in our practice and our classes, and this module weaves the others together into a rich tapestry.

Venue: Yoga Dublin, Dunleary
Cost: € 90
Time: 09.30-12.30 – 2-4.30
See www.living-yoga.ie for bookings
The Fluid Matrix Part 1 explores the dynamic oscillation between being and doing, stillness and movement and ebb and flow. This is the second in a series of one day trainings for students who wish to immerse themselves in embodied anatomy and the energetics of Yoga. The fluid body is the primary system of transportation, transformation and inner dialogue in the body. We communicate internally through a fluid matrix that consists of blood, lymph, cerebrospinal, synovial, interstitial, transitional and cellular fluids. By learning to consciously engage our inherent fluidity, we liberate prana, and invite movement to become juicy, liquid, adaptable, effortless and dare we say fun!

Join Lisa at the world famous Burren Yoga Centre (voted one the world’s top ten !) that combines the best of Yoga, great food, breathtaking scenery and the warmest welcome around.
“This was my first weekend away alone from my young family in more than 5 years. I got a lot more than I expected – total relaxation, excellent food, some great yoga, including a breakthrough in my practice, great outdoors walk, and fantastic group of people. The centre has great location in a beautiful setting of Burren, lovely yoga room, excellent food, enjoyed by non-vegetarians as much as by vegetarians. In less than 48 hours I got rid of years of stress and totally re-set my mind, body and spirit and re-discovered a much more relaxed, centred and most importantly happy self. I would recommend this to anyone, experienced yogis and beginners alike.”

‘Learning is movement moment to moment’ Krishnamurti
The human body is far more liquid than solid. Fluids act as the primary transportation and communication system in the body, and constitute between 60 and 80% of our make-up.
The body’s fluid nature creates undercurrents which ebb and flow within us. So called ‘static’ yoga poses are actually dynamic internal dances as the body seeks balance through movement within the stillness. Without fluidity, we become stagnant, stuck and tense and dessicated. Our joints click and groan and our muscles develop a knotty feeling. We also age faster. By learning to consciously engage our inherent fluidity, our movement becomes juicy, liquid and adaptable.
This workshop will explore the oscillation between fluidity and form. We will explore how to develop a fluid consciousness, (or a go-with-the flow way of being), and how fluids allow us access a deep well of inner creativity. We will explore the application in both balances and vinyasa.
The workshop is suitable for students who want to develop flexibility, who feel ‘stuck’ in parts of their body, and anyone who wants to put a spring in their step and a smile on their face.

“The concept of the neutral body . . . entails embracing a different paradigm other than the concept of sculpting the body. A neutral body does not look like a body that others recognize as a dancer, cyclist, or swimmer. The neutral body moves from a dynamic, supple core into a movement pattern, embodying form and expression, and then moves back to a neutral body.” ~ Liz Koch, “Core Awareness”

“I want to free what waits within me so that what no one has dared to wish for may for once spring clear without my contriving it.”~ Rilke, “Book of Hours”

Each of us comes to Yoga with a desire to experience inner freedom. Although studying and practicing methods and techniques can take us so far, as soon as our identity solidifies around a set way of being we begin to live in a way that is limiting rather than liberating.

In this intensive we will explore what it means to be fluid within all the dimensions of our self: physically, energetically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. We will use the fluid systems of the body as our structural thread, exploring the fluids both cognitively (in lecture, PowerPoints and video) and experientially (through somatic inquiry, authentic movement, asana, meditation and Yoga Nidra). As we dive into the world of the fluids, from the dynamic liquidity of the cellular fluid to the percussive flow of the blood, we learn that the very nature of the body is fluid adaptation and change. Viewed from the vantage point of a neutral embodiment and witnessing consciousness we find that when we are fluid we open ourselves to the limitless nature of consciousness itself. Come prepared to dive in, to dare yourself and to embody the question of who you really are.

After much haranguing from my students, the long awaited Living Somatics Training has arrived ! This four day course is spread over two weekends. It is suitable for Yoga teachers, massage therapists, psychotherapists, body-workers and students who want to dive deeper into understanding how to work with pain, injury and trauma from a Somatic perspective.
Somatic Movement Education (SME) unites modern neuromuscular science with ancient Yogic wisdom. Somatic movements offer a safe, fast, efficient, and profound way to realign ourselves and release unconscious muscular contraction.
This workshop will teach you a series of customized movements that address the three primary stress responses in the body. We will examine how these responses unconsciously hijack our posture and movement patterns and how to engage the brain to reprogramme the body.
Somatic movements can be seamlessly incorporated into any movement practice of training programme. In addition, they offer a complete system of injury rehabilitation for the root cause of a host of conditions including slipped disks, hamstring tears, frozen shoulder, hip, back, neck and other conditions commonly labelled ‘arthritis’, ‘wear and tear’ or ‘normal ageing’.
Experience greater ease of movement, flexibility, balance, co-ordination and pain relief from the head down to the feet, and discover the ease, poise and lightness that comes from having a balanced and integrated structure. Everything becomes easier.
Participants will be given a full programme to use in their classes or private sessions and a clear understanding of the methodology behind Somatics as an art as well as a science. DVD’s will be available for students who wish to study further. Remember, use it or lose it !

Shifting Gears: Slow Down and Enjoy the Ride
Our nervous system has two sides. The ‘doing’ side sends us out into the world to work, play, and be active. The ‘being’ side takes care of relaxation, recuperation and healing. Stress is what happens when the body’s instinctual ability to balance ‘being’ and ‘doing’ is overpowered.
In this workshop, we will explore how to bring balance and steadiness to the nervous system. We will hone our kinesthetic intelligence by refining some key skills to help to free the spine, change muscular tone and alternately stimulate and soothe the organ system. We will explore how to orchestrate the breath to liberate prana and the best techniques for mental clarity and focus. The results are a feeling of peace, lightness, and inner calm.
The workshop will include a brief lecture, asana, restorative, somatic and meditative practices. Enjoy 3 hours to deeply rest and restore your energy reserves.Suitable for students from all streams of yoga with over one year practice.
